Entries are now being accepted for this year’s Hospice UK Awards, with the winners to be announced in November.

The awards focus on three key areas, each seeking to recognise successful and innovative projects. The categories are: Innovation in Care, Innovation in Volunteering and Innovation in Income Generation.

There are also two individual awards – the Anne Norfolk Lifetime Achievement Award and Volunteer of the Year – which look to reward the outstanding commitment shown by people in various different roles in the hospice sector.

Last year’s winners included St Nicholas Hospice Care’s Hospice Neighbours project, which was awarded the Innovation in Volunteering Prize. The charity – which last month won a Queen's Award for Voluntary Service for the project – drew inspiration from services in the Indian state of Kerala, using local volunteers to provide companionship, respite for carers and support with day-to-day practicalities.

The Innovation in Care award was won by St Christopher’s Hospice for its Bromley Care Coordination project, which allowed people to face the end of life with dignity and in a place of their choosing, while Martin House Children’s Hospice’s Centre Stage Music Competition was recognised in the Innovation in Income Generation category.

Two individuals were awarded the Volunteer of the Year prize, while a further seven took home Anne Norfolk Lifetime Achievement Awards.

The deadline for entries for the 2015 awards is Tuesday 8 September, and winners will be presented with their awards at the Hospice UK annual conference in Liverpool on Tuesday 10 November.
