Royal Trinity Hospice’s Chief Executive Dallas Pounds will be among the speakers at this year’s TEDx talk held in Wandsworth, south west London.

Dallas will talk about death and dying as part of the day’s programme of talks which have the theme ‘Truth & Dare.’    Her talk will examine the myths and taboos surrounding death and dying and why we find it so hard to talk about this universally relevant subject. Commenting on taking part, she said:

“It is fantastic to be involved in this event. My topic will explore the need for us to take back ownership of death and dying and be able to discuss it with our children, our family, and our friends. The ‘truth’ is we will all die, the ‘dare’ is to take the courageous step of acknowledging this and being prepared for it.”

Dallas will be one of 16 speakers on the day. Other participants will offer different takes on the theme based on their varied backgrounds in the arts, technology, science and medicine, and they include David Yubb, the Artistic Director of Battersea Art Centre, Jo Youle, the Chief Executive of Missing People, and Jason Leigh Forshaw, Research Fellow at Surrey Space Centre.

Kay Chauhan, Organiser for TEDx Wandsworth said:

“We are excited about the speakers who have come on board. We are compelling them to look at the world around us; our communities, our workplaces, the media and democratic institutions, and even to outer space, and asked them to bring truth to power, dare to speak their truth, and invite and empower individuals and institutions with divergent views to think and debate.”

Launched in 2009, TEDx is a programme of locally organised events that bring the community together based on the renowned TED talks. Some of the best talks from TEDx events have gone on to be featured on TED.com and garnered millions of views from audiences across the globe.

TedX Wandsworth will be held on Saturday 25 November. For more information and to buy tickets visit TEDx Wandsworth
