Earl Mountbatten Hospice on the Isle of Wight is hosting a conference on end of life and palliative care to commemorate its 35th anniversary.

Care and Innovation will feature a number of national and local expert speakers in the field, along with opportunities to put learning into practice with a number of workshops. The one-day conference, taking place on November 3 at the New Holmwood Hotel in Cowes, is designed for anyone interested in or already working in health and social care.

Speakers will include Dr Ros Taylor MBE, previously Clinical Director of Hospice UK, Professor David Clark, University of Glasgow, Professor Mari Lloyd-Williams, University of Liverpool, Nigel Hartley, Chief Executive of Earl Mountbatten Hospice, and Chris Pointon, Co-founder of #hellomynameis…

The #hellomynameis…campaign was founded by Dr Kate Granger, a patient with terminal cancer who wanted to encourage healthcare staff to introduce themselves to patients before delivering their care. Granger died in July last year and her husband Chris Pointon is continuing with the campaign.

Pointon said:

“I hope to inspire many and also talk through a personal journey that culminated in amazing hospice care for my beautiful wife Kate.”

Commenting on the event, the CEO of the hospice Nigel Hartley said:

"As the lead provider of end of life education and training on the Isle of Wight, and an organisation recently rated as outstanding by the CQC, this is an opportunity to share our experiences along with the most recent information in our field with health care professionals from across the south coast and further afield.”

“We look forward to sharing our 35 years of knowledge and to hearing from other national speakers who lead the country in their own areas of expertise.”
