It’s a ten from Len for London Hospices Choir

08 December 2016

The London Hospices Choir’s bid for Christmas Number One has received a ringing endorsement from Strictly’s Len Goodman.

The choir features 300 patients, families, staff and volunteers from 18 different hospices, including Demelza Hospice Care for Children, where Len is Vice President.

Len took time from his busy schedule to explain why he wants everyone to pre-order their copy of ‘The Living Years’, which is released on Friday 16 December.

Len said, “it is so important that we all support the hospices – they are the most life-enhancing places ever, bringing families together when life is at its most precious. But they also really struggle for funding and awareness, so to get the London Hospices Choir to number 1 this Christmas would be a dream come true. And their track ‘The Living Years’ with Paul Carrack is a beautiful version of a wonderful song – it warms the cockles of your heart.”

The race for Christmas Number One is hotly contested but lead vocalist Paul Carrack, who sang on the original version, says that the London Hospices Choir has created something exceptional.

Paul said, “The Living Years has been an important song for me for many years, but this is the version that means the most. Recording it with this incredibly special group of people for such a worthwhile cause has created some kind of magic. It’s a powerful and inspiring track, and I hope that everyone gets behind it this Christmas.”

The hospices have also been helped by the support of the #NHS4XmasNo1 team, who ran the campaign which helped was the driving force behind the NHS Choir’s ‘A Bridge Over You’ hitting the top spot last Christmas.

The cut-off point for all sales and streams of single to be counted toward the chart is midnight on Thursday 22 December. The choir will know if it has been successful when the full Christmas Top 40 is counted down on BBC Radio 1's Official Chart on the following Friday.

All profits from the sale of the single will be divided between the 18 hospices involved, helping them to support those reaching the end of their lives, and their families. The hospices include; Demelza Hospice Care for Children, Greenwich & Bexley Community Hospice, Harlington Hospice, Haven House, Marie Curie (Hampstead), Noah’s Ark Children’s Hospice, North London Hospice, Pembridge Palliative Care Centre, Princess Alice Hospice, Richard House, Royal Trinity Hospice, Shooting Star Chase, St Christopher’s, Saint Francis Hospice (Romford), The Hospice of St Francis (Berkhamsted), St Joseph’s Hospice (Hackney), St Luke’s Hospice and St Raphael’s Hospice.

‘The Living Years’ by The London Hospices Choir and Paul Carrack is being released on December 16th. It is available for pre-order now at these links – every order comes with a personal promise of “a ten from Len”.
