Palliative Care Week 2017 – How to Get Involved

Palliative Care Week is taking place from 3 to 9 September 2017. This marks the fourth year of the All Ireland Institute of Hospice and Palliative Care (AIIHPC) palliative care awareness week.

The theme for this year’s campaign leads with the question ‘Palliative Care - What have you heard?’ AIIHPC wants people to think about their understanding of palliative care and to encourage them to find out more. This year’s campaign includes real-life stories of individuals who have experienced palliative care.

Palliative care focuses on helping people of all ages to live well with an illness that’s life-limiting and achieve the best quality of life as their illness progresses. It involves not only the management of pain and other symptoms but offers social, emotional and spiritual support too.

Whether you are an individual or working in a large organisation, you have an opportunity to raise awareness and contribute to wider understanding of palliative care. This could be through having a conversation with your colleagues, your family and friends, or holding an event.

AIIHPC has a range of materials to support the campaign. A leaflet containing personal stories and explaining palliative care is available and AIIHPC will be happy to send you copies for distribution at any events, meetings or locations where you can distribute them. The leaflet and other campaign materials can be viewed at this link

If you would like AIIHPC to send you any printed copies of the materials for distribution for Palliative Care Week 2017 to any groups (small or large) or events you might be aware of, you can let them know by contacting Bernadette Pirihi at or call 00353 1 4912948.
