Tallaght Hospital has revamped family rooms in its emergency department to provide "calm and dignified" spaces for patient's next of kin.

The completed revamped family rooms are called The Rosheen Suite.

Staff at the emergency department successfully approached the Adelaide Health Foundation for funding support to redevelop two family rooms and the corridor they are located in.

The Adelaide Health Foundation is a voluntary independent charitable organisation which seeks to advance healthcare that is centred upon the dignity of every human being and that provides equal access to quality healthcare based upon clinical need.

The redesign and refurbishment of The Rosheen Suite included new floors, paintwork, furniture, blinds, curtains, and tea and coffee making facilities.

Doctors and nurses now have "calm and dignified" spaces to bring families to during "difficult times."

A spokesperson for Tallaght Hospital said: "Over the last few months a lot of work has gone into the redevelopment of family rooms in the Adult Emergency Dept at Tallaght Hospital - with the generous support of the Adelaide Health Foundation.

"These rooms provide a quiet space for our patient’s next of kin at a difficult stage in the journey of care they take with us. Thank you to the staff in the Arts Office, Pastoral Care, Facilities Management and the ED that put so much effort into the project.

"Further works are planned for the family viewing room with Irish Hospice Foundation through their Hospice Friendly Hospitals programme who through the Design & Dignity grant another important improvement to our hospital environment."
