ACP Day Highlights from Alberta Health Services - Calgary Zone

11 April 2018

Alberta Health Services is geared up for the week of National ACP Day with lots of online activity, including tweets on the AHS Twitter account, an ACP Day banner on AHS websites, and the above email signature banner for staff to use.

The Calgary Zone of Alberta Health Services is planning several local events throughout the week of April 16th to educate the public and health care professionals about advance care planning and goals of care designation (ACP/GCD). They have an ACP/GCD Tip of the Month series they distribute by email to a variety of sectors and disciplines; this month’s tip will be focused on the theme of ‘community’ in ACP. There will be presentations and information booths set up across the region, targeting the public and health care professionals.

An ACP/GCD resource package was created for units at an acute care site with helpful documents about ACP/GCD processes and will be distributed to the units in April. On April 16th, ACP/GCD educators will present on GCD chart audit results to unit managers, and have also booked 1:1 meetings throughout the day with CNE’s from a variety of in-patient units at one of the acute care sites. The aim of these meetings is to increase awareness of ACP/GCD educators and educational support our team can provide. Finally, a Serious Illness Conversation Guide workshop will be provided for homecare nurses in the region.
