The 2nd Congress on Paediatric Palliative Care - A Global Gathering, is set to take place in Rome, Italy from 19 - 21 November 2014. Abstract submission deadline is 15 June.

The 1st European Congress on Paediatric Palliative Care organised in Rome by the Fondazione Maruzza Lefebvre D’Ovidio (Maruzza Foundation) in November 2012 stimulated considerable international interest, drawing over 300 delegates from 40 countries across 4 continents and an elevated level of scientific content.

The goal of the 2nd Congress on Paediatric Palliative Care: a Global Gathering is to engage with professionals working with critically ill children worldwide by providing an international forum for interdisciplinary knowledge sharing where experiences, current topics and new perspectives on key issues regarding palliative care for children and their families can be debated, compared and discussed. The official language of the congress will be English, with simultaneous translation into Italian for all plenary sessions.

Pre Congress Courses held on 19 November include:

  1. Pain Management - Course Directors: Finella Craig and Boris Zernikow
  2. Communication with the child and family - Course Directors: Joan Marston and Barbara Sourkes
  3. Working with the PC team: challenges an opportunities - Course Directors: Danai Papadatou and Myra Bluebond Langner
Congress programme and abstract submission
The congress programme foresees numerous opportunities for professional development and networking: from pre-congress courses, keynote lectures, plenary symposia and abstract-driven presentations. A large part of the congress programme will be abstract-driven. Those considering submitting an abstract are encouraged to focus on work that introduces new ideas and/or concepts; new research findings and advances to the field of Paediatric Palliative Care, as well as analysis of both success and failure.
Case studies will be also considered.
Abstracts must be submitted using the electronic abstract form and can be denoted for either oral or poster presentation. All accepted abstracts will be published in the abstract book, which will be distributed at the Congress. All posters will be displayed in the poster exhibition area.

The deadline for abstract submission and for early registration to the congress is 15 June 2014. Abstracts can only be submitted using the online abstract submission form.

No Pain for Children Award
To support and encourage the work of young investigators in the field of paediatric palliative care, the 2014 No Pain For Children Award For Excellence In Paediatric Palliative Care will be presented during the congress to the best abstracts submitted by Presenting Authors under the age of 35 years.  A first prize of € 6,000, and up to three secondary prizes of € 3,000, will be awarded.
