WHO discussion paper: Positioning health in the post-2015 development agenda
18 October 2012
WHO has published the discussion paper ‘Positioning Health in the Post-2015 Development Agenda’.
The Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) have been a powerful force in providing goals and objectives for global health development. The success has come from the simplicity of the framework, the focus on quantitative monitoring and on easily understandable objectives. However, as we approach 2015, discussion is being initiated around the next generation of goals for global development.
The new goals are currently being debated, and this latest discussion paper provides analysis of the current global political context and discussion. It examines also sustaining gains and protecting investments in healthcare, and explores the potential for universal health coverage and improving life expectancy globally.
The discussion paper is available to view on the WHO website.
