Support for oncologists in developing countries: applications open
10 October 2012
Applications are open for the International Development and Education Award, which provides support for early-career oncologists in low- and middle-income countries.
The programme is run by the Conquer Cancer Foundation of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to support oncologists in developing countries and facilitates the sharing of knowledge between these oncologists and ASCO members.
Recipients of the award:
- are paired with a mentor from ASCO
- attend the ASCO Annual Meeting and visit their mentor’s institution in the United States or Canada
- receive three years of complimentary ASCO membership, including a subscription to the Journal of Clinical Oncology
- develop long-term relationships to improve cancer care in their countries and inform ASCO programs in developing countries.
The application deadline is 9 January 2013. Download an application form from the Conquer Cancer Foundation website.
A related award, The International Development and Education Award in Palliative Care, provides support to oncologists who are interested in palliative medicine. Applications for this award have not opened for 2013 yet, but dates will be announced on the Conquer Cancer Foundation website.
